Do you know what can MAKE or BREAK your sales with E-commerce? It’s USER EXPERIENCE or UX for short. Why? It is the first impression between you and your customers and since the main objective of E-commerce is to generate sales, what determines if you will be able to turn your website visitors to customers is UX. By the fact that it is how your website’s interface makes the users feel and how easy it is to navigate your site toward the purchasing completion.

For a clearer picture, let’s look at one of the famous selected clothing brand websites in 2020, Lisa Says Gah. This in one of my most favorite online shopping websites. Let’s pretend we are looking for a cute knit sweater for this upcoming winter.

10 seconds later, a small window shows up asking for email subscription, in exchange for 10% discount on the first order.

sign-up window

This is nice and pops up in the right time! To be honest…I already filled my email in the box as soon as I see it says 10% discount. Even though, you don’t want to fill your email in for further communication and promotions, or you are a regular user, the pop up window can be close easily.

The first thing that appeared is the menu tab, the featured products of GAH wine tote and next to that is new arrivals. Scrolling down, there are best sellers and shop by brands category. The first glance on this website is really convincing for me. By the reason that the website design is very minimal and stylish with white, dark grey and red as main colors. All of the photos are high resolutions but they don’t take much time for the whole website to load and fully show up at all. It takes only 2 seconds!!

As I am looking for a sweater without any brand preference, I clicked on Sweaters, on the tab menu Shop.

I love that there are option for you to choose 3 or 6 products in a row. Plus, there are filters to narrow down the products and option for a “Quick shop” when you drag a cursor to any photo.

quick shop pop up window

The differences between Quick shop and Regular click and shop are that the Quick shop window will pop-up on the same page, which doesn’t require anymore load time but there are only a single product photo with short details showing.

On the other hand, if the product is clicked, it will take you to the product page and will require about 4 second load time. By the reason that there is a video of a model wearing the specific product, along with many product photos, in order to portray the moving motion to give the website visitors clearer view of the particular product. The regular shop gives more details about the product, including description, details and care instructions, size measurements, and more. Plus, there are some suggested products in a similar category listed in the bottom of the page under “Style with”, which gives opportunity to the website visitors to explore more products.

Let’s say that I want to buy this green knitted sweater, after selecting the size and clicking add to bag, the product popped up below the bag icon in the upper right corner of the page.

After I clicked CHECKOUT, the details about my product are shown in the page, Including shipping criteria! Do you feel that there are some websites that don’t mention any shipping terms and they just mysteriously add the fee into the total cost of the product? That kind of website always make me confused about the higher total price that I have to pay. But Lisa Says Gah is pretty upfront about their shipping terms.

As well as the payment options, which are very trustworthy I feel, as the original logos of Afterpay, ShopPay, GPay, Paypal, and AmozonPay are showing.

One of the great things is that the site is offering so many payment options as mentioned above that provide the opportunity for their potential customers to select the most suitable option to pay, including credit cards and especially AfterPay.

Once the financial information is filled, the “confirm payment” button can be clicked and DONE! You are all set with the fast confirmation email on your order.

In my perspective, this website is one of a few E-commerce sites that gives me such a nice and relaxing user experience. Especially, by the fact that they don’t force me to register or create an account before paying and they are very clear about shipping cost. I don’t have anything to complain! The only hard thing for me is to stop myself from wanting to buy everything…hahaha.

Before ending this blog, I want to point out that when you create and design your website’s UX, it will be extremely helpful to put yourself in your potential customers’ shoes and look at your site from their point of views. The less load time, the less procedures before checking out, the higher quality of product photos, the more options for payment, and lastly, the upfront shipping criteria can play a HUGE role in turning your website visitors to customers.
